World Trip 2009-2010: Day 21 – Pantanal, Brazil

Thursday 17 December 2009
Highlights: Day Safari and wildlife spotting, Horse riding

Today we set out on a day safari of the countryside. We saw lots of different wildlife, caiman, capivara and giant river otters. With the caiman we went down to the river and slowly got closer, David even got into the water — no way would I do that.

Later in the day we went horse riding. Emma opted out and after getting on the horse Kelly decided it best not to go, which I totally understood. We went riding for about 2 hours over the property, it was about 35 and we all sweated a bit. My horse enjoyed following the lead guide but obviously wanted to gallop a little. Andrew’s horse started a mini gallop right near the end of the ride, I think he was happy to finish.

That night our guide David started playing a guitar by a fire (it keeps away the mosquitoes) as we all watched the stars. It was a bit unusual having a fire on a warm night but I didn’t get eaten by mosquitoes so it worked!
