During my world travels I have used 8 tour / travel companies to help me experience as much as possible of the world in the time I had available;
- G Adventures (17 times),
- Journey Beyond Rail (2 times),
- AAT Kings (1 time),
- Intrepid (1 time),
- On The Go Tours (2 times),
- Trafalgar (2 times),
- Imaginative Traveller (2 times) and
- Royal Caribbean (1 time).
While Imaginative Traveller was the first tour company I used back in April 2006 it is G Adventures who is my go to tour company with 17 tours (but counting combined tours it is 23) so far with the first one in June 2009 (Egypt) and the latest one in December 2024 (Ecuador) and the next one planned November 2026.
Tour Company: G Adventures
This is the major tour company that I keep coming back to. So far I have booked 17 tours with them (travelled 15 with 2 coming up in 2026). Several of those tours where combined with smaller tours so if I had booked separately it would be 23 G Adventure tours I had been on. This represents 302 days of travel with G Adventure with and additional 21 days by the end of 2026.
I travel with G Adentures as they have amazing CEOs (Chief Experience Officers), attract great adventurous travellers, offer a range of trip styles (basic to luxury), and cover the entire world. The also are there for you when it matters. G Adventures is the company the let me explore Antarctica as well as camp on night on the continent! I feel I learn something every time I use G Adventure and I’ve introduced a lot of people, including nieces and nephews, to them. Travel Your Heart Out and G for Good are their main philosopies and they live them in my experience.

Cruise Company: Royal Caribbean
To this date this is the only major cruise line I have used, while I used G Adventured for a cruise to Antartica that was a different type of cruise experience being expedition style cruising.
I had a very positive experience with Royal Caribbean. They are a major cruise company with massive ships. They are aimed a younger travellers (20-45 year olds) and families. Great entertainment and nice food. I travelled with Royal Caribbean to see if cruising would be the next phase of my world travels and while vastly different to land tours I’ve decided this is something I will do over the next 10 years.
- Ten Night Southern Caribbean Cruise (26 December 2024 to 05 January 2025) – Cruise Itinerary (PDF) and Booked Shore Excursions & Costs (PDF)
Tour Company: Journey Beyond Rail
A luxurious rail comany with professional staff and comfortable and unique trains and good food and activities that I have booked twice. Expensive but worth it to experience the vastness of Australia if you can afford it. Older travellers (since you need money) covering Australians and international travellers book these tours.
- The Ghan Expedition (31 August 2022 to 03 September 2022)
- The Indian Pacific (11 November 2026 to 14 November 2026)
Tour Company: AAT Kings
I’ve only travelled with AAT Kings once. This was across remote Western Australia and Northern Territory. The tour company was laid back, endearing and professional when it mattered. Australians used this tour company for this trip, a very patriotic group who loved their country and wanted to explore it’s most remote parts.
- Untamed Kimberley (19 August 2022 to 29 August 2022)
Tour Company: Intrepid
Intrepid are the contemporaries of G Adventures who I have used a lot. While I’ve only travelled with Intrepid once I have run into their tour groups many times and spoken in depth to people on their tours. They are a strong tour company with solid and positive travel themes.
I have just found G Adventure tour leaders to be a little more passionate overall then Intrepid but I would not hestiate to go with Intreprid if they had a better itinerary than G Adventures in countries I wanted to explore. The Cuba tour I did with them was very memorable.
- Cuba Explored (2 December 2012 to 9 December 2012) Videos
Tour Company: On The Go Tours
I have booked andtravelledwith On The Go Tours twice. This includes the massive overland Africa tour over 57 days that was incredible. The tour leaders were passionate about their jobs and the travel groups had adventurous travellers who wanted to explore nature and share unique experiences.
- The Great African Expedition 57 Day Tour (25 November 2017 to 12 February 2018) – PDF Trip Notes
- Best of Sri Lanka and Test Cricket (30 July 2016 to 9 August 2016)
Tour Company: Trafalgar
I have booked with Trafalgar twice. I found Trafalgar to be more ‘formal’ and aligned more to the itinerary. Reliable company with nice travellers who are a little older but also having families with younger children.
- Eastern Europe (7 July 2006 to 22 July 2006) – journal entries only
- Rhine Christmas Markets River Cruise (02 December 2026 to 09 December 2026)
Tour Company: Imaginative Traveller
I have booked and travelled with Imaginative Traveller twice. I found them to be a very fun and adventure driven company.

- South Africa Explored (4 April 2006 to 23 April 2006) – journal entries only
