  • World Trip 2019: Day 13 – Minca to Taganga, Colombia

    Wednesday 21 August 2019.
    Highlights: La Victoria Coffee Farm visit, Pozo Azul Waterfall, and intense topical rainstorm

    A leisurely morning allowing for us to sleep in as long as we had breakfast by 9 am and our bags were ready to be transferred to Taganga while we continued our exploration of Minca in the morning and early afternoon.

    What wasn’t on the plan as an intense topical rainstorm which was great to witness since we were safely undercover at the time 🙂

  • World Trip 2019: Day 12 – Cartagena to Minca, Colombia

    Tuesday 20 August 2019.
    Highlights: 4 Wheel Drive Experience, Marinka Waterfall, Casa Elemento (Largest hammock in the world)

    Today was our last long drive of the tour clocking in at 5 hours as we enter the home straight. I took a few more imodium tablets during the night hoping that this would do the trick however the moment we were leaving hotel in Cartagena I required another quick visit to the toilet. Miguel escorted me to our transportation which had to move while waiting for me in the busy single lane street.

    Highlights: Castillo San Felipe de Barajas (Fortress), The Mercado de Bazurto (local market), Calle Agnosto (alley of umbrellas), Gestsemani street art, San Pedro Claver Church, Cartagena Cathedral

    The first full day of the second week of the tour saw the group undertake a Cartagena City Tour. This was mostly done in an air conditioned bus thank goodness as it was extremely hot and humid today. Still the long times outside the bus at the first two stops and the the last walking tour though the Old Town section.

    Highlights: Islas del Rosario National Park – Isla Bella

    Today was a day of relaxing on a topical island. I have selected an optional visit to Isla Bella in the Islas del Rosario National Park at a cost of 195,000 pesos (around $85 AUD). Leaving our hotel at 7.40 am and returning after 4 pm it was a day in the sun and swimming in Caribbean Sea.

    Highlights: Lost or stolen wallet, farewell dinner

    Today was one of those days you remember for the wrong reasons. While leaving MedellĂ­n sometime between exiting our private bus and checking in my bag for the 9.53 am flight to Cartagena my wallet went missing.

  • World Trip 2019: Day 8 – MedellĂ­n and GuatapĂ©, Colombia

    Friday 16 August 2019.
    Highlights: Replica town Peñol de Guatapé, Rock of Guatapé, Guatapé zocalos, tuk-tuk ride.

    Today was a full free day from the tour so the group split and did there own thing. Seven of us selected a day tour to Guatapé which our tour leader Miguel organised and joined us (cost 110,000 pesos). It was to be a day of amazing colours, fitness tests and great street art work.

  • World Trip 2019: Day 7 – MedellĂ­n, Colombia

    Thursday 15 August 2019.
    Highlights: Exploring MedellĂ­n – Downtown and the infamous (but great) District 13, Monserrate Hill Cable Car ride.

    We have two full days in MedellĂ­n before catching at flight out on Saturday. Today was the chance to see MedellĂ­n up close and in depth while tomorrow some of us will leave the city and visit the picturesque Guatape.

  • World Trip 2019: Day 6 – Salento to MedellĂ­n, Colombia

    Highlights: Long countryside private bus ride, a quiet beer in MedellĂ­n

    Today was a repositioning day to get from Salento to MedellĂ­n. That meant leaving our hotel in Salento at 7 am and attempting to get to MedellĂ­n before peak hour traffic.
