    Highlights: Farewell Dinner

    After 14 days it was time to end the Mexico Ancient Civilizations part of my Mexican and Central America trip. Today we farewelled Tina, Luna, Sam, Patricia, Aaron, Lauren and Kate. I had originally been a little concerns that I would fit into a basic style tour aimed at 18-39 year olds but the departing tour members made me feel very welcome and I’ll miss them all to varying degrees.

    Highlights: Feeling better, Chichen Itza

    The best thing about today was walking up and feeling much better. The group as a whole was also doing a lot better which was great news considering we had a 3 hour trip to Chichen Itza (without toilets) and and 3 hours later to Playa de Carmen.

    Highlights: Visit to the cenotes (water sink holes).

    Woke up during the night feeling unwell and I didn’t get any better by the time for our 7 am catch up with Sid for today’s option activity to the sink holes at Cuzama. Initially I said I wouldn’t attend but thought this is a once in a chance opportunity so decided to give it a go. The entire group other than Sid, Stephen, Luna and Cynthia are unwell.

    Highlights: Christmas on a public bus!

    Today we had a 9 hour public bus ride to Merida with an early start needing to be at reception before 7 am. We could only book one vehicle to get us to the bus due to it being Christmas. Additionally we pre booked a breakfast pack and wrapped pizzas for lunch.

    Highlights: Ancient ruins of Palenque, Early Christmas

    A very late sleep in today as the Ruins of Palenque are within walking distance and there was no need to rush. The best news of the day was it appeared most people in the group had recovered from their colds/flues and stomachs concerns.
