Highlights: Feeling better, Chichen Itza
The best thing about today was walking up and feeling much better. The group as a whole was also doing a lot better which was great news considering we had a 3 hour trip to Chichen Itza (without toilets) and and 3 hours later to Playa de Carmen.
On the trip to Chichen Itza I had a very ‘touchy’ elderly Mexican lady who grabbed my knee a few times and touched and rubbed my arm at one point as well. Why didn’t this happen later in the day when I had a hot young Mexican girl!
The crowds at Chichen Itza were overwhelming only to be outdone by the large number of vendors once inside the site. The major ruin / temple was indeed impressive but I was a little underwhelmed by the entire site probably because you can’t walk freely around the site or climb any of the steps.
The day was however made okay by the delightful newlyweds Aaron and Lauren. We waited out the rest of the day eating lunch at a restaurant with a very American feel and definitely prices. Actually at most of this site prices are stated as US dollars first. The vendors start with ‘very cheap $1’ to pull you in. Another trick is to ‘sand’ down an item that had been pull out of a box to make it look like they had just made it 🙂
The bus drive to Playa del Carmem was under eventful. I began to notice a few places near the end of the drive as I’m now back in the general area of Cancun were I was only 2 weeks prior. While the temperature is hot and humid my great room has air conditioning so a good night’s sleep is ahead 🙂 I’ll be here for the next 4 nights.
