Highlights: Adventures on an overnight bus, Andrew failing the vindaloo challenge
The overnight bus trip ended up taking 14.5 hours instead of the scheduled 12 due to the bus getting stuck in 2 different mud slides, an experience to be sure especially with my seat broken. This meant we got into town around 11 am and we got the bad news our rooms wouldn’t be ready until 12.30 pm.

Highlights: Geysers, thermal baths, Laguna Colorada (red lagoon), Laguna Verde (blue/green lake)
Today we got up at 4.15 am, I was so asleep I managed to scalp myself going to the toilet, Bolivians are not very tall and a lot of the infrastructure reflects this with low ceilings and door frames, definitely no ruckman or basketball players to be found in Bolivia!

Highlights: Exploring Uyuni Desert, Flamingos
After experiencing an amazing sunrise over the Salt Flats we said goodbye to our Salt Hotel and set off to explore the Uyuni Desert. The Uyuni Desert has some amazing foundations and landscape.
Along the way we run across a watering hole which had some beautiful pink flamingos.

Highlights: Exploring the Train Cemetery, Seeing how Salt is extracted, Exploring the Salt Flats, Christmas in Bolivia, Staying in a Salt Hotel
Kelly was struggling due to altitude sickness and went to local hospital to receive some additional oxygen. Kelly recovered quickly but it was a reminder to us all to take time to adjust to higher altitudes and don’t let yourself lose your breath.

Highlights: Travel day, watching local landscape change
Leaving Potosi we caught a local long distance bus to Uyuni which took around 4.5 hours with one stop in the middle of nowhere to allow us to stretch our legs.

Highlights: Exploring a Potosi mine, buying dynamite, attending a Christmas event.
Today we travelled for 4 hours from Sucre to mining town of Potosi stopping a few times to stretch our legs and take photos of the beautiful countryside.

Highlights: High altitude hike, Children’s Charity night
Today was the day me and Andrew tested ourselves with a high altitude hike at 3,500 metres above sea level for 10 kms. We were both happy when Karen joined us for this hike. We met at the tour company at 8.30 am and it took about 1 hour 20 minutes to get to our starting point. The views during the hike were magnificent; sometimes it was hard to believe we were looking down at very high mountains.

Highlights: City tour of Sucre
After a nice night in a comfortable bed and a good breakfast Andrew went down the street to get our clothes washed as we were down to almost nothing clean.

Highlights: AeroSur high altitude flight and hair rising landing
We said goodbye to David who had an earlier flight to catch, it seems that the first part of our tour is now over. Andrew wrote a personal message to David and gave it to him with our tip.

Highlights: Night club dancing and fun
The overnight train trip went well; they even served a nice meal. Kelly seemed to sleep well curled up like a cat in the opposite seat; I believe Andrew and Gareth played Mario Kart on the DS consoles for most of the night.
