World Trip 2009-2010: Day 32 – La Paz, Bolivia

Monday 28 December 2009
Highlights: Adventures on an overnight bus, Andrew failing the vindaloo challenge

The overnight bus trip ended up taking 14.5 hours instead of the scheduled 12 due to the bus getting stuck in 2 different mud slides, an experience to be sure especially with my seat broken. This meant we got into town around 11 am and we got the bad news our rooms wouldn’t be ready until 12.30 pm.

Having only a small dinner yesterday, which some in the group having nothing, we headed to Oliver’s Tavern which served English food (motto: Alcohol, the cause of and the solution to life problems – Homer). I had a very large baguette with sausage and egg with a side order of orange juice – very tasty.

We didn’t get back until after 2 pm so after organising for the washing to be done Andrew and me just had a showers and got some rest before our final tour dinner for the 2nd leg of this tour.  I booked a city tour for tomorrow before the third tour as well and I’m hoping it doesn’t rain like it did today.

The dinner has at an Indian restaurant which had a vindaloo challenge, which Renato, Jose, Monica, Titch and Andrew undertook. Renato, Jose and Monica won and got a free tee-shirt, Andrew ended up sweating and I think even crying a little and couldn’t finishing. Personally I wouldn’t have got as far as Andrew did, the menu warned everyone of the hot taste and the staff reminded everyone multiple times. Hopefully Andrew doesn’t experience any side effects tomorrow.
