    Inca Trail Day 1
    I had a bad night with diarrhoea – not a great start to the hike but Karen set me up with pills to shutdown my system, Gareth got me some antibiotics and I also took some herbal pills – in the end I was a walking chemist set and it turned out to totally shutdown this illness and my need to go to the toilet at all.

    Highlights: Planelerra project – Ccaccacollo, Pisc Ruins, Inca Pub, Hiking the ruins of Ollantaytambo

    We visited the Planelerra project in the Ccaccacollo Community. Planeterra, which is the charity arm of GAP Adventures to help local communities, has been working with the Ccaccaccollo community to develop a women’s weaving cooperative since 2005.  This initiative is to help financially support the women in this village was the men leave for up to 10 months to work as porters on the Inca Trail.  I bought a beanie to help keep me warm on the Inca Trail.

    Highlights: Sun Temple, Exploring Inca Ruins

    We decided to forgo the free breakfast at the hotel and instead went to ‘Jacks’ were I had the ham & cheese toast, Andrew went for the pancakes. The serves were huge and no one managed to finish. Gareth, Emma, Kelly & Karen decided to head up to the Christ Statue overlooking the city while Andrew and me decided to do some shopping for the Inca Trail before exploring in the afternoon.

    Highlights: Paragliding over the Sacred Valley of the Incas

    I finally managed to eat some food for breakfast so I must be getting over the bug / food poisoning. Andrew managed to convince Karen to sign up for paragliding today so off all three of us went at 9.30 am. The hour drive out to the jumping point was interesting enough and reminded me of how we three did a hike in Sucre not long along. The wind wasn’t that strong so we had to wait for the toilet paper radar to blow (I’m not joking).

    Highlights: Struggling to recover, the beautiful Plaza de Armas

    First we said goodbye to Shrina, Indu, Kate and Brooke for their Amazon adventure, however it turned out later that Brooke had to miss the Amazon trip due to being unwell. I understand a doctor had to assist Brooke.  I was still not well but was much better than the death I felt like last night.

    Andrew and myself showed no ill effects from the big party last night and after a big breakfast made by our ‘mother’ we went down to the boat and said goodbye to the community that gave us so much fun last night.

    Today we set off to explore Lake Titicaca and its local people. This started with us catching bicycle rides down to the port. Gareth as ever kept encouraging his bike rider to past me and Andrew we did managed to get in front a number of times but we lost the race 😦

    Highlights: Cute baby llamas

    Getting up at 6.45 am we packed our bags and went down to breakfast. Andrew tried salt pancakes (by accident) but I thought it was funny. We caught a bus to San Pedro de Tiquina which was right on the edge of Lake Titicaca from there we caught a small boat across the smallest part of the lake.

    Today sees us start the 3rd and last leg of the South American tour so later tonight we will met our new tour leader and two new tour members. Renato, Monica, Lance and Martin left today.
