    Highlights: Ferry ride, Overnight train to Bangkok

    Today was the long day that had multiple transportation methods from sitting in the back of a truck on dirt roads, to a ferry, to a double decker bus and finally and overnight 12 hour train ride. The day started with thunderstorm waking me at 3 am, glad it was at night while I was in safe in my resort room 🙂

    Tuesday 9 October 2012.
    Highlights
    : Fun in the sun, Aroma Massage, Hiking a mountain, BBQ seafood, Chinese Lanterns.

    A late start today still saw me the first one to breakfast at 8.30 am. Now some of the girls went to the Half Moon party last night, which sounded like it was a crazy event, with them returning at 3.30 am.  Officially today is a free day for relaxation or optional events, Kirsty and Laurence decided to go diving.

    Highlights
    : Ang Thong National Marine Park, Kayaking in the Gulf of Thailand, Cruising around small islands

    A major seafaring day, not for those with motion sickness for sure. We checked out early from the hotel and had our bags locked away, we would see them late in the afternoon for our ferry ride to Koh Phangan.

  • World Trip 2012-13: Day 11 – Nakhon Si Thammarat to Koh Samui, Thailand

    Highlights
    : Elephant ride, Patting a tiger, Ferry crossing to Koh Samui.

    Today we headed to the island of Koh Samui located on the East Coast in the Gulf of Thailand. A roughly 3 hour van transfer saw us arrive at Don Sak Pier for our ferry trip. Incredible scenery with mountains, the coast and a giant Buddha in the background. After we eventually found the right ferry to catch we were off to Koh Samui which is one of over 80 islands in an archipelago.

    Highlights
    : Shadow puppets.

    For once I was the first one into the breakfast room, keen to avoid yesterday’s lateness. Breakfast choices were few but toast and corn flakes will do. We have a 7 hour drive today crossing into Thailand after about 2 hours.

    Highlights
    : Penang Hill, Cocktails with the girls.

    I overslept a little today which resulted in me getting down to reception as we were due to leave which meant no breakfast today, I guess that will teach me!  We had a 4 hour drive to Penang today, the first 2 hours down the highlands winding left and right, luckily no one got car sick.

    Highlights
    : Tea Plantation, Hiking in the forest, Relaxing at the waterfall.

    Today turned out to be a massive day. The group split into different activities, I went on the forest hiking tour. Kirsty, Yasmin, Lydia, Laurence, Sophie and myself left in our van at 8.45 am. The company picked up 2 more passengers for our van and another 8 for another van. First stop was the Boh Tea Plantation were we watched how to collect and make tea. Lydia at one point had a stalker in a very keen bee 🙂

    Wednesday 3 October 2012.
    Highlights
    : Petronas Twin Towers, the drive to Cameron Highlands.

    Four adventurous souls, Kirsty, Laurence, Yasmin and myself left the hotel at 6 am to return to the Twin Towers but this time to climb them (via lifts!) and view the tiny people below.

    Highlights
    : National Palace, National Monument, National Mosque, Freedom Square, Batu Caves, Pewter Factory, Silver leafed monkeys and Fireflies

    Following yesterday’s late night I struggled to get up for what turned out to be a very big day. Most of my companions from last night appeared in good order although Joanna took a little longer to get going..

    Highlights
    : Petronas Towers, Chinese Night market, Reggae Bar

    Leaving Melaka around 8 am with a quick taxi ride to the bus station we got breakfast at the station and off we went to Kuala Lumpur. I had an enjoyable conversation with Sarah about fantasy movies, books and TV shows, a surprise indeed when you find someone with such similar interests.
