Highlights: Climbing Dune 45, Hiking to Deadvlei (the Dead Valley), Namib-Naukluft Park Canyon

An early morning pickup from my hotel just before 6 am so we could get into the National Park the moment they opened the gates which was critical to avoid the worst of the sun and heat in the desert across the day. Our driver got us though the traffic and to Dune 45 before most of the other vehicles that were in the line ahead of us.

Highlights: Flamingos, Luna Rock formations, Tropic of Capricorn

Today was a long travel day but that doesn’t mean we didn’t get to see and experience more of this unique country. About 5 minutes out from Swakopmund the temperature rose quickly and never really dropped under 30 for the rest of the day and night. I know they say in the desert the temperature can drop quickly but it didn’t during my visit.

Highlights: Dolphin Cruise, Fork n Nice (Fish & Chips vendor)

Today I had selected a dolphin cruise option for my stay in Swakopmund and three tour members joined me; Gaelle, Rita and Isabelle. As we were being picked up at 8 am our crew organised for lunch at 7.30 am. It turned out the tour operator was running late and had to sent a personal driver instead of the bus to pick us up. The 20 minute drive to the port / pier still meant we got their in time for the 9 am sailing time.

While this was called the Dolphin Cruise there is never a guarantee of dolphins and today we did miss out on them but instead we got wonderful seals including some who boarded our boat and we got to interact with. I even got to pat two of the very friendly ones 🙂

Highlights: Spitzkoppe landscape and rock paintings

Despite having a comfortable room I got little sleep last night due to the group bonding session next door and the 5.35 am alarm today. This meant the unusually for me I did doze off a few times when crossing the amazing Namibia landscape. I couldn’t however but be impressed whenever I did look out the truck windows and this started from our first landscape stop just for photos.

    Highlights: Desert landscape, group bonding

Today we left Etosha behind us and headed deeper into Namibia and Southern Africa. The landscape keeps getting more and more arid and you can see the starts of desert all around us.
