We cleared Customs very quickly. New Zealand treats Australians as residents for Custom purposes so it almost felt like being at home. After clearing Customs we heard ‘Andrew, Andrew which was Erin. Kara, Jason and Erin had made their way to the Auckland International Terminal to welcome us. I knew this was the plan but Andrew was pleasantly surprised. We carried our bags over to the domestic terminal and had a terrible experience with Jetstar checking in. This confirmed my decision to never either use them if I have a choice which unfortunately I didn’t in New Zealand. All five of us shared lunch at McDonalds which I have a feeling well be seeing a lot in the next 10 days.
Kara, Jason and Erin flew on Air New Zealand to Christchurch at the same time we flew on Jetstar and we met again on arrival. A pick-up from the car rental and about 45 minutes after landing we were on our way to the hotel for the next 2 days. The hotel turned out to be very good and I think I’ll enjoy the facilities, but the location is even better. After settling we headed into the city and the City Centre which is the Cathedral Square. I have been here before as has Kara and we recognised a lot of the locations. Given how tried we all were we didn’t stay long so after picking up Fish ‘n Chips it was back to the hotel. Later in the night Jason, Kara, Erin and I headed down to the local pub. When we returned and told Andrew they had the Australian Tennis Open on TV he quickly head off to watch a few matches with his Mum. Obviously Andrew and me were very tried but at the same time very happy to be back with family and in more familiar surroundings.
