World Trip 2009-2010: Day 17 – Iguassu Falls, Brazil and Itaipu Dam, Paraguay

Sunday 13 December 2009
Highlights: Itaipu Dam Water release

Andrew skipped breakfast but made it down for our 11 am trip to Paraguay to buy electronics and go shopping.   We weren’t stopped at the border entering Paraguay and before we knew it where in a new country.   We did some shopping in Paraguay, I ended up buying some replacement shorts, Andrew got a tennis top and a chip to play DS games but unfortunately he got the wrong SD disc so he still needs to buy another one.

Gareth, Emma, Martin and I then went and visited the Itaipu Dam which is an amazing engineering marvel.   It generates 90% of Paraguay’s energy and 20% of Brazils which is all renewal.   It took 20 years to build and is listed as a modern marvel.   Luckily they were venting the excess water due to the recent rain and the flow was spectacular, very worthwhile visit.   When I got back I started burning DVDs of our Iguassu visit (Argentina boat ride) as we prepared for our overnight bus trip to Bonito.
