Highlights: US Tennis Open 2019
One of my life time goals is to see all Grand Slam Tennis events around the world. Today I got to see the third Grand Slam, the US Open, and it was a great day at the tennis.
This is one of the many events that I’m doing with my brother Reagan while in New York. We headed on the subway system on the Number 7 line from 42th Street Station. Arriving at the Willets Point station in Flushing Meadows home to both the US Open and the nearby Citi Field baseball field in the Queens borough.
It took some time to work out how to pick up our tickets, Reagan needed to show both his passport and credit card used to purchase the tickets, but we got in around 30 minutes before play was to start. Reagan bought some tennis merchandise and we headed for the Louis Armstrong Stadium which allows general ticket holders in.
The two matches we watched were:
- Stefanos Tsitsipas (8) versus Andrey Rublev 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (7-9), 5-7
Duration: 3 hours 57 minutes
Simona Halep (4) versus Nicole Gibbs 6-3, 3-6, 6-2
Duration: 1 hour 51 minutes
The Tsitsipas versus Rublev match was particularly enjoyable.
We then ventured out to the outside courts and got to see Thasani Kokkinakis (AUS) who is making a comeback on the tour.
The US Open is actually very expensive. General Admission costs $60 USD and just getting a small cheeseburger costs $10 USD or $15 AUD. The grounds are very impressive and this was a very enjoyable day.
I finished up having dinner at the New Yorker hotel with my mother and brother.
