Time of day: Early Afternoon (13.15 to 15.55)

Rating: 5 / 5

I had access to this lounge as a Qantas Platinum member (which equates Oneworld Emerald).

LOUNGE LOCATION
The Cathay Hong Kong “The Wing” First Class Lounge is located in terminal 1 on level seven. Once you pass customs turn left and you will hit the lounge after 2-3 minutes walking.

Alternatively on level six near Gates 1 -4 enter Cathay Hong Kong “The Wing” Business Class Lounge and take the seats on the left, at the top of the stairs staff will direct you to turn right into First Class lounge

LOUNGE AREA
The first class lounge area is open air inside the terminal with lots of natural light and viewing of the tarmac. When I arrived early afternoon the lounge was maybe 30% full.

There are a range of seating types including innovative Solis Chair which looked great to both relax and work.

FOOD AND DRINKS
The there were two dinning areas. The first is an informal buffet style area that offers some hot and cold food with a few desserts and fruits.

But the main game is the The Haven, in an enclosed area offering both a la carte menu and buffet option.

I selected from the menu the Signature Noodle option – Wonton with noodles in soup (which included prawn and pork dumplings in chicken broth). Excellent meal. I selected two chocolate desserts (a chocolate pastry and chocolate pudding).

There is a Champagne Bar which I didn’t have time to use, plus several locations with self serve wine, soft drinks and juices.

FACILITIES AND SERVICES
Now the main feature of this lounge is the Cabanas, I believe that there are five Cabanas. I booked one as soon as I arrived and unbelievably one was free for immediate use. This private room is a little piece of travel heaven. The Cabana offers a toilet, rest couch, open shower, a bath and work area! I used the bath and it was great feeling as I sunk into the water and floated. The is even a press service available while in the Cabana and a bath robe and slippers to use while you relax

You get use the Cabana for up to 1.5 hours. It’s an amazing feature, I was surprised they weren’t fully booked. If they all n use you get a pager which will buzz you when a Cabana is free. I thought a shower just before a flight was luxury but try a scented bath.

The lounge also offers several magazines and newspapers. There are four workstations setup in two locations (so two in each location). The wifi service provided was very good speeds. You will need the password to access the secure network, the password displayed throughout the lounge. There were power outlets everywhere, seemingly next to most seats.

WHAT’S GOOD
The Cabanas, get there early and book one!! Good sit down food options. Natural light. Lots of power outlets. Fast internet.

WHAT’S NOT SO GOOD
Nothing.

SUMMARY
This appears to be the main Cathay Pacific First Class lounge (although you could argue “The Pier” is better) and Cathay have gone all out to impress. The Cabana experience is more than impressive. If you have Oneworld First Class Lounge access than get to the airport early and use it at this lounge.
