Highlights: Wine Tasting, Billiards
Today we moved onto Cederberg Mountain which for most of the group would be the last night camping, for me I was booked in hotels or upgraded tenting for this leg so it is not a big deal for me but for others it was time to reflect on the last 2.5 weeks on the road about to come to an end. It took us about 7 hours to get to our destination made a little longer by an issue with the truck that meant we had lunch on the road instead of as planned at our destination.
The campsite was deep in a winery destination and the campsite produces grapes for local wines. This meant we had a wine tasting that started at 5 pm. But first on checking in we were reminded that this area is facing a severe water shortage and showers should be brief. Still I enjoyed a nice shower after skipping at the last site.
During the wine tasting we sampled 6 wines pouring about 1/5th of a glass, well that’s what we were supposed to do but some people ended up pouring a lot more! The wines were:
- Sauvignon Blanc
- Pinotage
- Shiraz
- Trevino Sweet Rose
- Michelle Sweet Sparkling
- African Ruby Vermouth
Between the 3rd and 4th wines we were served a selection of cheeses which I loved. The only wine I didn’t really like was the last one which is the most expensive the African Ruby Vermouth. Definitely felt the effects of these wines without quite being drunk.
We left the wine tasting for our last included dinner under the stars. Afterwards everyone moved back up to the bar and ordered some drinks and played some billiards.
I teamed with Onary and beat Andy and Arran in a close match and in a later rematch Andy hit five balls in a row (unbelievable) to beat Onary and myself when we only needed to sink the 8 ball. Great times.
