Africa Trip 2017-18: Day 10 Lake Bunyoni, Uganda

Highlights: Little Angels School, Views of Lake Bunyoni

Today those not going to the mountain gorillas today decided to visit the Little Angels Uganda who look after orphans and run a local school. This meant a very easy morning with no tents to pull down and breakfast at 9.00 am, how easy to we have this?

A volunteer from the Little Angels group met us at our truck on the campsite at 9.30 am and off we went by foot to explore the island a little. This small hike, all uphills for the first 30 minutes is good preparation for tomorrow’s gorilla hike. The effort was worth it as we got awesome views of the Lake area.

From here it was a downhill walk to the school and Rosa, Arron and myself went into Grade 6 and Belinda, Logan and Emilie went Grade 5. Watching these kids undertake what I thought looked like advanced maths to me so I was hoping not to be asked to the front which thank goodness didn’t happen but did to both Rosa and Arron :). One interesting method for keeping the students engaged by every 15minutes getting them to stand up and chap once, chap twice and sit down.

At lunchtime we headed out to the play yard and the children put on a sing a long by forming a circle. We are got pulled into the centre (twice!) to show our moves. I think they found me very amazing. After these the girls got taken away to get their hair braided while the boys were put though sports, for me this was a skipping rope.

After playtime we all gave a donation and went on a boat ride across the the lake which gave us a different perspective of the area.
