World Trip 2009: Days 15-16 – London to Cairo, Egypt

Friday 5 June 2009 and Saturday 6 June 2009
Highlights: Empty seat on flight to Cairo

After having a second shower at the Heathrow London Airport (in Terminal 5 B) I happily boarded my British Airway flight to Cairo, Egypt hoping everything will work out regarding the hotel and transfer.

Things started out well when I had no one on the plane next to me; I managed about 45 minutes sleep on the 5.5 hour flight. Watched people get up from their seats as soon as the plane landed and despite calls they remained standing, at least until the pilot hit the brakes 🙂

I was incredibly happy to see my bag had made it from Los Angeles to Cairo, very impressed with British Airways. After landing around 2 am local time I got a private taxi for a cost of $20 USD (high) and watched my life flash before me, even at that time there were heaps of cars and the way everyone drives is like in a computer game except in this you die.

The hotel tried to charge me $80 USD to check in at 2.30 am but I got then back to the standard rate of $60 USD.

I was so wasted I didn’t even come down for the included breakfast. In fact I stayed in my room for what seemed like 30 hours before getting up on the Sunday, officially the first day of the tour (with a group meeting and the real tour starting on Day 2).
