World Trip 1999-2000: Day 59 – Buffalo to Chicago, USA

Friday 7 January 2000
Highlights:
Jazz and Blues music, the view from the Sears Tower

Leaving last night from Buffalo we arrived in Chicago around 10.30 am.  Today marks the half way point of the trip.  We ended up staying at the Arlington House Hostel which turned out to be a real dump.  It took a while to find a working hot shower (two floors above us).

Exploring Chicago our first stop was the local library to work out how to get to Deadwood (there are no Greyhound Buses going there).

We then visited the Sears Towers which was the tallest building in the world until 1996.  They overcharge you $8.50 to see the views from the 99th floor.  From this height you can see the whole city and at night the view is beautiful.

We then enjoy the music at Andy’s Jazz Bar that played Jazz until 9 pm and then switched to Blues until the early morning.  It was a little weird watching white people playing the Blues 🙂
