Adventure ahead on the Indian Pacific

While my World Trip 2026 is still 16 months away a lot has recently occurred.

Most importantly my employer had granted me approval for 8 weeks leave.  I’ve also paid for tour on first leg, commencing in November 2026, and put down a deposit for the second tour activity.

2026 World Tour

  1. Australia Leg:  Taking Indian Pacific overland train from Sydney to Perth (4 days / 3 nights) plus a 6-day Perth tour (Paid)
  2. Jordan Leg:  Taking an 8-day G Adventure tour that includes visiting and exploring Petra (deposit paid)
  3. Greece Leg: Taking a 9-day Trafalgar tour of Greece
  4. Spain – Portugal – Morocco Leg: – Taking a 15-day G Adventure tour

I’ll be commencing this trip in November 2026 with my neice (Darby) on Leg 1, and continuing on Legs 2-4 with my nephew (Harry). We will be returning early January 2027, hopefully with my bathroom renovation having been successfully completed.

Australian Leg

After I went on the amazing North to South Ghan train over 4 days in 2022 from Darwin to Adelaide, I wanted to then do the even longer East to West coast Indian Pacific train journey.

The booked 2026 Indian Pacific train trip will commence in Sydney and go though the Blue Mountains.  We will stop at Broken Hill for off train experiences.

Next off train experience will be Adelaide.  This is followed by Cook, a ghost town, as we cross the Nullarbor.  We will also stop at Rawlinna the largest sheep farm in Australia for dinner under the stars.

The total train journey will be 4,352 kilometres (2,700 miles) and includes the world’s longest straight stretch of railway track, 478 kilometres (297 miles) stretch of the Trans-Australian Railway across the Nullarbor Plain.

In Perth on our first full day, we will start by exploring Perth City, Fremantle, Kings Park Botanical Gardens, Indian Ocean beaches, and the Swan River.

The second day we will traverse the natural wonders of the Pinnacles Desert which includes the unique living history of the 170-year-old Spanish Benedictine enclave of New Norcia.  We will then take a scenic cruise on Swim River to Fremantle and the Indian Ocean

The third day we will visit Rottnest Island meet the abundant and unique Quokkas.

The fourth day we will tour Busselton and Margaret River areas for a guided tour of Mammoth Cave, see the massive Karri trees, and explore Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse. During this day we will visit a winery to taste some of the very best local wines.

This first leg I’ll be travelling with my niece Darby.  The first leg is a very nice way to start my 8 week adventure, starting with new experiences in my own country before I’m exploring the world again.

I live in the USA and I’ve always wanted to see quokkas. Would you please tell me what company you booked your 6-day Perth tour with? Thanks!

Thank you for your help. I’ve been reading guidebooks about Australia recently and I think I’d like to start in Western Australia and maybe Tasmania. I think it’s time to commit and make the dream a reality!
